Balti Recipe


For a Balti, you will need the following ingredients: 


  • 4 Tbsp Vegetable Oil/ Ghee
  • 1 Medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 Tsp Balti Spice Mix
  • 3 Green Chillies (finely chopped)


  • 800g Diced Meat, Fish or Vegetables


  • 400ml Water
  • 4 Tbsp Pureed Onions
  • 4 Tbsp of Tomato Puree
  • 2 Tbsp Garlic Ginger Paste
  • 6 Tbsp Natural Yoghurt

Step-by-Step Instructions

To make this delicious Madras curry, follow these steps:

  1. On medium heat cook the onions until soft and golden (approx. 5 minutes)
  2. Add the rest of 1 and cook for a further 5 minutes
  3. Add the meat to the onion mixture and stir well for 1-2 minutes
  4. Stir all of 2 into the pan and cook until the meat is cooked through, then gently simmer until the sauce is thick, this should take about 15-20 minutes
  5. Add some chopped coriander to serve (optional)
  6. If the dish is too thick or watery add water or Tomato/onion puree accordingly.
